Bel Air High School graduate and U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Jose Lucero IV was recently named 2024 Outstanding Airman of the Year at a special ceremony in Washington D.C., spotlighting him as one of the nation’s top enlisted members!
Jose was among 35 nominees who represent major commands, direct reporting units, field operating agencies and Headquarters Air Force who were considered for this honor by an Air Force selection board at the Air Force’s Personnel Center. Jose was among only 12 chosen as Outstanding Airmen of the Year based on superior leadership, job performance and personal achievements.
Early in his academic life, Jose experienced a speech delay that he worked diligently to overcome through elementary school. His relentless pursuit of excellence during his years at Ysleta ISD eventually led to him being identified as Gifted & Talented, and after graduating from Bel Air High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Fort Bliss.
As part of the award, Jose is authorized to wear a bronze service star device on his Outstanding Airman of the Year (OAY) ribbon, and may wear the OAY badge for one year from the date of formal presentation.
His selection as Outstanding Airman of the Year is an exceptional achievement, and the Ysleta ISD and Bel Air Highlander community congratulate him on his remarkable success – we are proud to call him one of our own!
