Young Women's Leadership Academy (YWLA) senior Mariam Isabel Castillo, who is currently ranked first in her class, has earned admission to Rice University with a full four-year QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship.
The Match Scholarship, provided by the school, is made up of a generous financial aid package that covers the full cost of attendance, including tuition, housing and food, books and supplies, and travel expenses.
“I was so happy!” Mariam said. “I immediately turned to my mom, and we thanked God for this incredible opportunity and blessing.”
This year, QuestBridge’s 55 college partners matched with 2,550 finalists or Match Scholarship recipients. Each Match Scholarship Recipient receives early admission and a full four-year scholarship to a QuestBridge college partner.
Mariam has demonstrated a strong commitment to the medical field that includes shadowing an orthopedic surgeon, attending the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Boston, and completing the Emerging Undefeated Biotechnology Program, where she gained hands-on CRISPR-Cas9 laboratory experience. She is actively involved in civic engagement as the first Student Leader of the League of Women Voters of El Paso and serves as President of the Spanish Honor Society, in addition to being a member of the NHS, the NSHSS, and the Double T Health Professions Honor Society. She has also volunteered for MedFuture and supported children’s ministry at Vino Nuevo Church. With multiple AP Scholar distinctions, high academic achievement, and extensive leadership experience, Mariam plans to pursue a career in medicine and continues to represent Ysleta ISD with excellence.
Congratulations Mariam! We look forward to following your successful journey at Rice University.
